When a caching plugin isn't enough
Most speed advice stops at "install a cache plugin and compress images". That helps anonymous visitors on static pages. It does very little for:
- Checkout, cart and My Account pages, which can't be fully cached
- Logged-in users and wholesale or B2B customers
- wp-admin, where your team loses minutes every day to slow order screens
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint), now a Core Web Vital, which is usually caused by JavaScript and not fixable with page caching
WooCommerce speed optimization means finding the specific query, hook or plugin that costs the time, and fixing that. I did this as L3 support for enterprise WordPress sites, and I now lead platforms serving 100K+ users a month.
What the work includes
1. Measurement first. Real-user Core Web Vitals (CrUX/Search Console), lab tests, and server-side profiling with Query Monitor and slow-query logs. No changes before we know the cause.
2. Database and queries. Slow meta_query lookups, autoloaded options bloat, missing indexes, orphaned data, HPOS readiness.
3. PHP and plugins. Profiling each plugin's cost per request; replacing or rewriting the expensive ones; stopping plugins from loading where they aren't needed.
4. Caching architecture. Page cache rules, Redis object cache, and fragment caching for cart and checkout.
5. Front-end and Core Web Vitals. LCP image priority, render-blocking assets, layout shift (CLS), and script cost (INP).

Can you guarantee a 100 PageSpeed score?
No, and be careful of anyone who does. Lab scores can be gamed. I target real-user Core Web Vitals passing in Search Console and measurable load-time improvements on your key pages.
Do I need to change hosting?
Sometimes, but it's rarely the first fix. Most slow WooCommerce stores have a code or database cause that follows them to any host.
Will you remove my plugins?
Only with your agreement. I show the measured cost of each plugin, then we decide together what to replace, reconfigure or keep.
How long does an audit take?
