Challenge
A product team published release notes as ordinary blog posts. Every release looked slightly different, entries were hard to filter by version or type, and editing an old release meant hunting through long posts. The team needed structured release notes they could manage on their own.
Solution
I built a custom WordPress plugin that treats release notes as structured content: each release belongs to a product and version, and contains typed entries (new, improved, fixed) that render consistently every time.
How it works
- A dedicated content type for releases, with product and version fields
- Repeatable change entries with a type label (New / Improved / Fixed)
- A consistent front-end template, with filtering by product and version
- A simple admin screen the team uses without developer help
- Built on public WordPress APIs only, so core updates don't break it
